What is the Best time to reach you?

Thank you for sending this application to help with Great Lakes Mastiff Rescue, Inc.

In order to evaluate where your strengths are and what you would like to do for rescue please respond to the following questions/sections.

HOME VISITS
These visits are necessary both prior to placing a dog in a new home and after the placement to ensure that all is well and that the dog and the family are adjusting well.

Would you be willing to do a home visit?

Comments:

TRANSPORTATION
Frequently dogs are moved from area to area in order to place them into a foster/adoptive home. To insure everyone's safety, we prefer to transport Mastiffs crated inside a vehicle.

1. Do you have access to an enclosed vehicle large enough to transport a mastiff?

2. Do you have a crate for transporting a mastiff?

3. How far are you able to transport from your home?

When are you available?

Comments:

EVALUATION
Before a dog can be accepted into the rescue program they must have their temperaments evaluated. This is an important task and should not be taken lightly as not all dogs have good temperaments and you really need to understand behavior to do this safely. Evaluations are generally done by experienced volunteers and you would be matched with a mentor until you are comfortable and knowledgeable enough to perform this task on your own.

Are you able to evaluate a mastiff in regards to temperament, behavior, sociability, or adoptability? This is a very important task and will need a person to have knowledge of the breed and experience working with Mastiffs

1. How long have you been acquainted with the Mastiff breed?

2. Have you done any training (obedience / conformation) with mastiffs?

3. Would you feel comfortable evaluating a mastiff with know temperament problems?

Comments:

FOSTER CARE
This is possibly the most important aspect of volunteering and not to be done without a great deal of thought. You must be able to separate the rescue dog from your own animals for the safety of all involved.

Short term (Emergency only, overnight, no longer than 3 days).

Long term (Until the dog is placed – usually 2 weeks)

Do you have a fenced yard?

Do you have a means of separating the rescue from your animals?

Do you maintain Homeowner’s Insurance?

(NOTE: You are required to maintain homeowner’s insurance to foster dogs. Legally you will be considered the “owner” of a dog while it is in your care.)

I certify that the above information is true and I understand that prior to the placement of a foster Mastiff in my home, the above information will be verified. I also agree to a personal interview with a GLMR member, if requested, to determine the suitability of my facilities to care for a Mastiff.
