Since December 2005, GLMR has taken in numerous mastiffs who required major medical care. Great Lakes Mastiff Rescue, Inc. has spent in excess of $11,000 on major othopedic surgeries, emergency medical care and treated heartworm positive Mastiffs as well.

Meet Moose, a neglect case out of Illinois. Besides the obvious obstacles that Moose faces he is also heartworm positive. Once Moose is free of parasites and is a healthy weight, he will go though heartworm treatment.

Donations are being accepted to help out this sweet boy who sincerely deserves a second chance at a happy, healthy life.

Please consider making a donation on behalf of Moose.

UPDATE 6-26-07: Update on Moose (See my new pictures!) - Thanks to all who have helped me with your kind thoughts, prayers and donations to my veterinarian care and treatment. Foster Dad took some new pictures of me and is getting them developed and they will follow soon. I have put on 23 pounds and some of my hair has started to grow back. I no longer have those parasites in my intestines and I am preparing for the second round of treatment to kill those nasty heartworms, and then six more weeks of “bed rest”. After that my foster parents say I will be able to run and play again. Right now though I have to be very quiet and still so my body can heal. I have learned so much in a very short time. I never knew my belly could feel so full. I never knew what a soft and comfortable bed felt like. I never knew the joy of being touched by a human hand. I thought for so long that those hands only held punishment for me and that somehow it was my fault. I know now that my future holds joy for me, thanks to these folks at Great Lakes Mastiff Rescue who have helped me. If you can find it in your heart to give to continue to help me and others like me to find loving homes, it will be greatly appreciated. How am I doing personally learning to live in my new world? Wow, I sure like the creature comforts, but I was a mess. I knew nothing about how to live and behave in a home with a loving human family. Although they say I am a quick learner, my foster family has taken the slow approach, giving me a chance to learn at my own pace, and most importantly getting me healthy again. Look for more updates in the future as I finally get healthy and look forward to the day I can run and jump again, with the wind in my face. I look forward to finding my best friend for life.
